"Our limitations and success
will be based, most often, on your own expectations for ourselves. What the mind
dwells upon, the body acts upon." -- Denis Waitley TRAINING RULES
1. Drinking will not be tolerated under any conditions. Tests have proven that alcohol affects wind, reflexes, and coordination. These are all important to be a good football player.
2. If you are smoking, chewing, or dipping at the present time, decide whether football is worth giving up tobacco. If it is, QUIT TOBACCO!
3. There is no room on our team for a man who can’t get high with the desire to win instead of drugs, so leave the drugs to the physically and mentally weak (the losers).
4. SWEARING ON THE FIELD AND IN THE LOCKER ROOM IS PROHIBITED.
5. Eat well balanced meals at regular hours. Stay away from between meal snacks such as pop, candy, and chips.
6. Report all injuries, no matter how trivial, to your coach.
7. No unexcused absences will be allowed at practice sessions or at chalk talks. Notify me before you miss practice.
RULES TO BE FOLLOWED AT PRACTICE
1. All equipment is to be worn to the practice field, unless otherwise directed. This includes helmets, which are to be worn at all times while on the field unless given permission to remove them.
2. Immediately upon entering the field, everyone is expected to stretch properly, and then running drills.
3. Everyone should then begin to work on their specialties: Linemen are to get the sleds and dummies out and begin starting, blocking, and pulling out drills. Backs and receivers are to get balls and begin to practice passing, handoffs, ball exchanges, and starting drills. Kickers, punters, and snappers should work on their skills.
4. When going from one part of the field to another, RUN!
5. Do not sit down or lie down on the practice field at any time, unless you are stretching or injured. If you must rest, do it on one knee.
CONDUCT IN THE LOCKER ROOM
1. For equipment to dry out properly, it should be hung up properly.
2. Throw paper and tape in the trash cans not on the floor.
3. Shower after every workout. Boils, skin diseases and other infections can begin because of uncleanness.
4. No fooling around shall be tolerated in the locker room.
5. Do not borrow equipment from another player. If you need something ask a coach or a manager.
6. Wash your equipment frequently.
7. When you dress for games, have clean equipment.
CONDITIONING AND INJURIES
-No team in top condition will ever take a beating from another team.
-Physical conditioning takes place on the practice field.
There is a saying that blocking is the essence of offensive football, and
that tackling is the essence of defensive football. Blocking and tackling are
both 10% skill and 90% desire and determination, so there isn’t too much to
learn about blocking and tackling as long as the desire and determination are
present in the player.
In most cases, injuries are an outgrowth of poor conditioning. A
blocker, tackler, or runner who hits his opponent as hard or HARDER than
his opponent hits him, will seldom get hurt. KEEP THIS IN MIND!
There is a place on every football team for any young man who has the
desire to play and who will devote the effort to his own development.
WILL YOU BE ON A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM THIS YEAR?
(You hold the answer.)
This is your team--win or lose. Here are ways you can become a CHAMPION:
1. You will play your games the way you practice. Be a winner in all your practices, and you will win on game day.
2. If things look as if they will be tough--BE TOUGHER!
3. Pour the HEAT on every play. Your opponents will learn to fear you and respect you.
4. We will furnish just about everything that will help you be a good player except the DESIRE and EFFORT on your part.
5. Be a gentleman--both on and off the field.
6. Be willing to sacrifice at all times for the good of the team.
7. Tackling and blocking are the two most important skills in football. They both take 10% skill and 90% determination!
8. To win you have to pay the price in SWEAT, EFFORT, and SACRIFICE.
9. NEVER, NEVER GIVE UP!
10. Concentrate on your play assignment and the starting count on every play.
11. If two players are equal in ability, the better conditioned ONE WILL WIN OUT IN THE END.
12. Be proud to be a FOOTBALL PLAYER.
